Prioritize spending time with Jesus, worshipping Him and honouring Him this Christmas.
The countdown to Christmas is officially on.
Retailers are pulling out all the stops—to lure shoppers—in hopes for better-than-last-year’s sales; companies are making last ditch efforts to close any performance gaps or surpass targets of earlier quarters; while on the personal side, families and friends are scrambling to put out their best efforts to impress relatives and peers.
What a frenzy?
At the announcement of the very first Christmas in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago, the angelic host made it plain to men, that Christmas was a time of tremendous glory to God as it heralded His divine favour to humanity (Luke 2:14).
“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2: 10).
The Messiah is the promised one who God chose and anointed to set his people free. Jesus the Messiah came to restore to humanity all that was lost through Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden.
All our rejoicing, celebration and festivities at Christmas then ought to be for the gift that we received from God—His son Jesus Christ, who gave His life for our sins, became the acceptable sacrifice and restored our access to live with God forever.
For many of us, our preoccupation with preparing for Christmas has overshadowed the original reason for the celebration.
In the story of Mary and Martha, Jesus said Mary did the one thing that was essential when He visited their home. She prioritized what matter most—spending time at the feet of Jesus, hanging on to His every word. Her sister, Martha, however, was more concerned with the preparation and hosting. Jesus said, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:38-42 AMP).
Like Martha, we’ve been distracted from what matters most—the gift of Jesus Christ. He is the reason for the season. Above all our other agendas, let’s prioritize spending time with Him, worshipping Him and honouring Him this Christmas.
