Hope in an era of uncertainty.
“For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
In a world of shifting loyalty and self-aggrandizement it seems almost impossible to trust anyone to uphold your best interest. Parents neglect children in pursuit of their careers and personal goals; political leaders renege on campaign promises once elected; companies downsize to boost profits at the expense of employees. We live in an era of pervasive uncertainty.
As we seek progress throughout society, it seems to wreak more havoc on the human element assaulting our confidence and peace.
Mental wellness is a growing concern across the continents for all ages and cultures. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that “around 20% of the world’s children and adolescents have mental disorders or problems; mental and substance use disorders are the leading cause of disability worldwide and about 800 000 people commit suicide every year”.
These trends reflect our ability to cope, contribute meaningfully to society and fulfill our potential in an era of uncertainty. Where can we go to be safe? Who will protect us and the future of our destiny?
Jesus foretold that in this world we will have trouble and offered us this solution, “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Therefore, in spite of what we face today, we are not without hope.
Jesus is the Saviour of the world. He is God’s gift of salvation to humanity, our antidote against all that threatens our peace and destiny. “For God so love the world that He gave His one and only begotten son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16)
Jesus overcame the world not by his own might, intellect or power, but through the Spirit of God in Him. When we accept God’s gift of salvation, we too receive the Spirit of God in us. Like Apostle Paul we are empowered to do all things through Christ who gives us strength. We can flourish and not flounder in times of uncertainty.
The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead is in you (Romans 8:11). “… Christ in you is the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).
Today, wherever you are at and whatever your challenge, call on the God who sacrificed His only son to give you the opportunity to overcome the world and guarantee you eternal life.
“For as many as receive him, he gave them the power to become the sons of God.” John 1:12
