What the enemy meant for evil God will turn around for God.
Reset. We have been hearing that word a lot lately. To reset is to start over, shift from a current position, to set again or set differently.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has forced a worldwide reset. The potentially pervasive and devastating impact of this disease to rapidly spread and overwhelm the healthcare system has forced nations to shift and do things differently.
As productivity slows, spending shrinks and the movement of people is discouraged, every industry has had to reset. Automakers are retrofitting to make respirators. Breweries have redirected production lines to making hand sanitizers. Airlines have grounded their fleet and laid off thousands of workers. Stock markets have tanked. And in many nations, only essential businesses are encouraged to remain open.
In our personal lives we are also being challenged in this time of upheaval to reset. As the Lord challenged the seven churches in the vision John saw and recorded in Revelation 2-3, He’s today challenging his bride—each person in the body of Christ—to reset.
Wherever you’ve grown weary, dull, complacent, neglectful, haughty, cold or compromising, take this time to reset. Don’t be distracted. Prioritize what can’t be shaken. Return to your first love. Fortify your relationship with God.
God’s call for our personal realignment with Him today is an offer of grace not judgement. He desires that none should perish but for all to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9).
In love, he promises, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse [obliterate] all our unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9).
Please don’t be deceived. We all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. (Romans 2:23).
Let us therefore humble ourselves, pray and seek God’s face so that he can fulfill His promise to “hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
To each of the seven churches in John’s vision, Jesus’ caution was unequivocally the same, “He who has an ear let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Revelation 2:7,11,17,29; 3:6,13,22).
Let’s take heed. Let’s also thank God for the opportunity to reset in the midst of adversity, for we know that His ways or higher than our ways. And like Joseph, we can trust that what the enemy meant for evil, God will turn around for good. (Genesis 50:20.)
In fact, glimpses of divine restoration have already begun. In Canada we saw an unprecedented unification of the church on Saturday March 29, 2020. From coast to coast, many denominations, people groups and civic leaders gathered online in fervent prayer for 11 consecutive hours. In one accord, from our respective homes, we humbled ourselves at the feet of Jesus. Province by province we came in agreement and offered prayers of repentance, petition and thanksgiving unto the God of all gods.
May the reset continue to the glory of God as the spirit of humility and the fear of the Lord overtake and overrule in every heart, in every nation. Amen.
