The race is not for the swift

Crossing the finish line hand in hand with God’s word

When the unexpected knocks you off your game, God remains in control. In every test and trial, your heavenly Father is in wait to encourage you to the finish line.

He is present to lift those who fall [willfully and unexpectedly] and uphold those who are bowed down [in grief, fear, hurt, pain, hopelessness, depression] says Psalm 145:14. In our weakness, His strength is made perfect (2 Corinthians 12:9). So, let us run the race before us and never give up, as the Apostle Paul urges in Hebrews 12:1-2, for God is sovereign author and finisher of our faith.

Yes, ignorant choices may have seemingly set you off course, but whatever derailment the enemy meant for evil, God can turn it around for your good just as He did for Joseph whose promised destiny seemed but an illusion for a very long time (Genesis 50:20).

Therefore, don’t lose faith in Him who is able to do the exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or imagine according to His power that is at work in us (Ephesians 3:20). In every situation, trust God with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Our all-knowing Father will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6). He will not give you more than you are able to handle, and He promises “a way of escape out of every temptation” (1Corinthians 10:13).

To succeed in any race requires preparation. However, when Jesus died and rose from the grave, He did it all for us. All God asks of us is that we humble ourselves before Him, acknowledge and confess our weaknesses and submit to His indwelling Holy Spirit.

God’s word is your weapon and defense against every attack and snare sent to steal, kill and destroy your destiny. Stay attuned to His word; it is a lamp to your feet in the darkness and a light to your path in the confusion of unclear choices and obscure timing (Psalm 119:105).

So, be encouraged by God’s Word today. Let it renew your mind and fortify you with immovable faith to the finish line. He who has begun a good work in you is faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6). He is the God of the mountains and the God of the valley (1 Kings 20:23-27). He is the undefeatable God with whom none can contend and you are His child.

Set your gaze and trust in Jesus Christ and run your race.
