For Such a Time As This

What is impossible with man is possible with God

And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the [f]hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the [g]saints (God’s people), 19 and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe.” Ephesians 1:18-19 AMP

Queen Esther (492 B.C.–c. 460 B.C.) was given a rare opportunity as Queen of Persia to save an entire generation of Jewish exiles condemned to extinction. Through malice and deceit, a decree was unjustly obtained by a government official for their annihilation.

In the course of the law, there was no opportunity, no higher authority, supreme court or privy council to which they could appeal once the King issued his decree. Their fate was doomed or so it seemed, until one man had another perspective.

Mordecai, Esther’s uncle and adopted father, knew that what is impossible with men, is possible with God (Luke 18:27). His niece was in a peculiar position to have the king’s ear. She could expose the evil and malicious plot of the government official. Esther was their last hope for survival. And so he appealed to her:

“…What if you have come to kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

Queen Esther, herself a Jew, weighted the odds and resolved, “if I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16).

Strategically, she prepared her intervention and in faith deployed her plan and won favour with her husband, the king. Having listened to Esther, the king could not reverse the decree he had already issued against the Jews. He however effected justice against the malicious accusers. He also had opportunity to sanction another law that allowed the exiled Jews to arm and defend themselves against the day of destruction planned for them, and they were victorious.

Today—centuries and many generations later—Jews still commemorate this victory and Queen Esther’s intervention with the annual two-day celebration called Purim.

What injustice are you facing that seems irreversible? God can give you favour in your situation.

  1. Appeal to Him like Esther.
  2. Get others to pray and fast with you.
  3. Then take the practical steps of faith that only you can take. Your deliverance and maybe that of a generation may very well rely on it.
