2020 A Decade of Clarity

How to be clear-minded and alert

As people talk of 2020 there is a recurring expectation that it will be a decade of clarity.

The term ‘20/20’ traditionally represents clarity of vision. In the physical sense, if you have 20/20 vision, you can see clearly without the aid of prescription glasses or contact lens. Likewise, if you have clarity of vision you have a clear sense of purpose and life is meaningful. Figuratively, the phrase ‘hindsight is 20/20’ means a clear vision of the past from the present.

In hindsight, we can see the great strides made in technology in the past decade. We also see the alarming rise of social challenges and mental health issues globally that have ruined many lives. People are struggling to find hope, peace and truth.

Even among believers in Christ, the pressure is real. The Scriptures warn that in these last days, some believers will fall prey to deception and lies that conflict with God’s truth (Mark 13:22).

No one is exempt. “The devil is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. So be sober-minded and alert,” 1 Peter 5:8 warns. Guard you heart and mind and manage your thoughts, Proverbs 4:23 and Philippians 4:6-8 also caution, for from it comes all the issues of life.

How do we maintain clarity?

To survive and thrive in this new season we need clarity of mind. We are assured this when we remain anchored in God’s word that:

  1. Renews our minds and strengthens us from conforming to fruitless, worldly perspectives. (Romans 12:2; Psalm 119:11)
  2. Transforms us to have the mind and nature of Christ. (Romans 12:2)
  3. Clarifies vision – to know the good, pleasing and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:3)
  4. Guides our path – as a lamp to our feet and light to our path. (Psalm 119:105)
  5. Feeds and nourishes us – for it is written, man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)
  6. Protects as an effective weapon in every battle – take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. God’s word is sharper than a two-edged sword. (Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12-13)
  7. Equips us for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:17)

Through God’s word, he gives us the clarity and the ability to be light and to light our world. Make the time to study and apply it daily.
