The Church is Not the Four Walls

Making Jesus Credible in Our Day.

Across the world, many church buildings, like many businesses, have been shut down due to COVID-19.  But while many affected businesses are contracting, churches have been booming under the lockdown.

From providing meals, groceries, and essential supplies on the frontline to online prayer, counseling and worship services, churches across denominations have been active in meeting the tangible needs in their communities and are growing in their reach.

The uncertainty of the times has also made the message of salvation increasingly attractive to people anxious for hope, peace, and direction.

Like never before, there has been a global surge of unity within the body of Christ, as leaders from varying denominations converge online to pray for the will of God to be established in the earth.

The stop order on corporate worship—as part of emergency efforts to limit the contagion of COVID-19—has birthed an infectious spread of family worship in homes. With the treadmill of life grinding to a halt, families with nowhere to go are rediscovering each other, the precious gift of spending quality time together, and the power of uniting for prayer and study of God’s word.

Through these bonds of unity multiplied in homes across communities, cities, and nations, healing and restoration are taking place.

A revival is stirring.

God’s divine order for humanity established through the foundation of a strong family unit that prioritizes Him is being restored. Hallelujah!

COVID-19 may have disrupted life as we know it. But we are seeing first-hand in our day, that what the enemy meant for evil, God can turn around for good.

The fear and trepidation that this virus released in the earth is being combated by a rising wave of faith in God who is sovereign and supreme over all other forces we may encounter.

Do you perceive what is happening?

Habakkuk’s prophecy foretold from the 7th Century BC is being fulfilled in our day.

For as we gather online for corporate worship, teaching, and sharing, the earth is being filled with the knowledge of the glory of God as the waters cover the sea. (Habakkuk 2:14).

The kingdom of online media is being infiltrated with the mission and message of Jesus Christ like never before. Online video conferencing and video-sharing platforms have become the new meeting ground for churches and small groups with a multiplier effect unmatched by traditional in-person gatherings.

The Ekklēsia—the church of Jesus Christ—is demonstrating the love, power, and authority of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth. The witness of their acts of service, benevolence, and unity—during these challenging times—is making Jesus Christ credible. And the world is being awakened to the reality that it is the people, not the building, that is the church.

What a glorious time to be alive!

Let’s continue to make the mission and message of Jesus Christ real to those around us to the glory of God!  For the word of the Lord has established, “I will build my church and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it!” (Matthew 16:18).
