Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Everyone likes praise and adoration, even the meekest of persons.
The dictionary’s definition of praise is “to express warm approval and appreciation of.”
Like the sun rising to warm the earth, so praise received, warms our hearts and lifts our spirits. It relaxes our facial muscles. Praise makes us feel valued and appreciated. Praise diffuses tension, allays fears of inadequacy or rejection and affirms us.
We can’t help but to grow fond of someone who gives us genuine praise.
If praise has that effect on us, can you imagine how our Creator feels when we praise him?
Psalm 22:3 records that God inhabits (or is enthroned on) the praises of his people. Enthroned means to a) seat in a place associated with a position of authority or influence. It also means “to seat ceremonially on a throne” and c) to assign supreme virtue or value to exalt.
Praising God establishes divine order
Our adoration and acknowledgment of God exalts him as the highest authority over us. Our praise to God says to him that we have seated him above our circumstances. Praise affirms God as bigger than the biggest, stronger than the strongest, higher than the highest and greater than the greatest.
This posture of humility by us ushers in the presence of God. Heaven comes to earth in our lives and circumstances. God’s authority then envelopes us and creates the atmosphere for miracles, signs and wonders.
Praising God favors and frees us
Acts 16:25-34 shared the miraculous outcome for Paul and Silas who were wrongfully accused and imprisoned. They were bound with chains on both their hands and feet in a dungeon of the prison. As they were praising God, the elements responded with a violent earthquake that shook the foundations of the prison, opened all the doors and broke all the prisoners’ chains free.
Paul and Silas’ praise to the Almighty during the seemingly darkest hour of their lives moved heaven to respond with miracles, signs and wonders. In response, the prison guard and his whole family chose to live for God.
Hundreds of years prior, God instructed the tribe of Judah to offer praise when the enemies that they once spared, created a joint force to attack and steal their inheritance. And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. (2 Chronicles 20:22)
As Judah praised God, He intervened and caused the combined enemy forces to turn on each other and utterly destroy themselves (vs 24). After four days of gathering the spoils from the defeated army, Judah returned home with joy “for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies” vs 27.
God’s principles are the same yesterday, today and forever. Our praise to God is a key to unlocking miracles, sign and wonders and is a weapon! Use it liberally. “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord,” encourages, Psalm 150:1-6. Read it for a blueprint you can adopt today.
