The God of the Mountains is the God of the Valleys.
Is your faith being put through the wringer?
If you’ve lost your job and the bills are still coming in with no income and no cushion to honor them, it’s not unnatural to have a bit of angst.
In the good times when resources are available in our coffers or when funds reliably come in on schedule, there’s little or no internal friction between the Bible verses we tout and our belief in them. Especially those verses that speak of provision, faith and the unfruitfulness of worrying.
But living through this unfolding COVID-19 tenuous reality demands a lot of our faith.
With so much out of our control, we may at times question—even unintentionally—will God supply our needs? Will He supply them on time and not cause us to be ashamed?
Subliminally, our worry cast doubt on both God’s promises to us and in God’s power to fulfill them. To a father who struggled with similar doubts and fears, Jesus counseled, “Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9:23).
Desperate for a relief in his situation, that anxious father responded to Jesus, ““I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24).
Beloved, it’s not a sin to question God, but it’s a travesty to think that God is only there for us in the ‘good times’.
God’s faithfulness to us is not contingent on our abilities. No. What He requires is our belief in His power and in His authority to “perfect all that concerns us” (Psalm 138:8).
He actually knew we would have these frail moments. And many believers before us have battled these same issues—of learning to surrender and rely on God—when they came up short.
Like the anxious father in Mark chapter 8, share your concerns honestly in prayer and be confident in this, God never changes. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever,” (Hebrews 13:8.) He is God of the mountains—the high moments of our lives— and God of the valleys—lowest seasons we experience. (1Kings 20:28).
These tests of your faith in His word and in His ability to fulfill them in your life are opportunities to strengthen His character in you. Believe in God and you will survive this.
