The eternal value to being salt and light
Are the things you are invested in and striving for able to bear eternal fruit or are they treasures on earth only?
This is a question everyone who follows Jesus Christ must reflect on and answer daily.
For every Christian is called to be salt and light in the earth (Matthew 5:13). And to store up treasures in heaven that will last for eternity (Matthew 6:19-21).
To do so, we must prioritize what will save souls—our own and that of others. “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” (Mathew16:26).
The zeitgeist of subtle moral decadence, consumerism and spiritual darkness permeating our societies is relentless. The earth is groaning for the sons of God to arise—to model and demonstrate the great and powerful (Chayil) glory of Jesus Christ in our day.
Let’s not be too busy with our own pursuits and self-serving agendas to neglect being the salt and light that preserves the eternal destiny of men.
At every opportunity, let’s share the good news of Jesus Christ with those around us who don’t know His saving grace. Let’s endeavor to be kind, patient and gentle in our dealings with others. Let’s speak words of life from the living Word to every depraved and decaying situation. Let’s maintain an attitude of gratitude and entreat the joy of the Lord to strengthen us in being like Christ daily.
In these simple ways we model the power of God’s grace and his transformative love to save humanity. And the promised result is: “… they will see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven” (Mathew 5: 15-16).
For when all is said and done, only what is done for Christ will last (2 Corinthians 5:10).
