A solutionist approach to standing in the gap .
A friend provides a character statement in support of a reduced sentence for a convicted loved one. A parent calls a credit card company and pays off the debt of a child.
Both acts are examples of someone intervening on another’s behalf to bring about a positive change.
Spiritually, we call this friend and parent intercessors. The Oxford dictionary defines an intercessor as “a person who intervenes on behalf of another, especially by prayer”.
According to James 5:16, “the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much”. All of us, therefore, have it within us to intercede to effect great change.
However, there are different levels of intercession. Elite intercessors are solutionists—unwavering, steadfast and purposeful in their goal. They get information (Jeremiah 1:2-3) and receive revelation (Jeremiah 14:7-15).
The greatest example of a solutionist intercessor is Jesus. Isaiah 53:12 prophesied, “He bore the sin of many and interceded for the transgressors.”
In the Garden of Gethsemane, the Bible tells us Jesus prayed earnestly and that “His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Purposefully, He cried out to God: “Not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:41-44)
Jesus intervened on our behalf and laid down His life so that all can have salvation.
As Christians, the Lord is stirring up within us a higher level of intercession for His glory. He’s calling on us to change our strategy so that He can use us more tactically to tear down strongholds, heal our land and manifest His CHAYIL (all powerful) glory.
God is looking for someone—a solutionist intercessor—to stand in the gap.
The solutionist intercessor has:
- ears to hear in more than one dimension
- eyes to see what God is looking at now
- heart to receive His burden for others
- time for God to engage them in spiritual warfare
