The secret to making the right choices.

It’s not as complicated as you may think

Choices. We are faced with millions of them throughout our lifetime. What to eat? Who to marry? How to vote? Do I stay or do I move? The pressure to make the right decision can be unrelenting.

Fear of the unknown and fear of failure can impair our judgement.

In the pressure, some folks turn to the stars, psychics, palm readers and medians to get direction. Indecision cripple other folks with analysis paralysis. While others of us rush to make snap decisions with little thought for the consequences or ripple effects.

Yet the Bible charts a course for decision making that guarantees our peace.

  1. Count the cost – Whether it’s a personal or business decision, we are encouraged to always do our due diligence. “Which man builds a tower and not first count the cost…” Luke 14:28.
  2. Pray – Take every decision to the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). God is sovereign and all-knowing. So let’s ask Him. He promises to answer and direct our steps if we inquire of Him. (Proverbs 3:5). In Joshua 9:14 the children of Israel did their due diligence to examine the evidence presented to them but failed to inquire of the Lord and they were deceived.
  3. Submit in confidence – “When you ask do not doubt. Do not get entangled in fear or unbelief. Philippians 4:6-7. He will keep them in perfect peace whose minds are stayed on Him”. (Isaiah 26:3).
  4. Step out in faith – After you have done your due diligence, prayed and submitted the outcome to God, take the next steps of faith. Do what you know is required of you that only you can do for faith without works is dead.

Let’s put it all in perspective. God is the master of opportunities. When He opens a door, no man can shut it and when He closes a door of opportunity, no one can open it. (Revelations 3:7). His desire is not to harm us. Even when we make poor choices, God can still use our missteps in our favour. So as we make our choices let’s rest in His guidance and wisdom.
