God is good. Resist the urge to blame Him.
Four weeks ago, 16 people died when a bus carrying teenaged hockey players collided with a truck in Saskatoon, Canada. Three days later, a school bus plunged off a mountain road in the Kangra Valley, India, killing 23 children, some as young as four.
The carnage continued on April 23, when a van was used to mow down pedestrians in the streets of Toronto, Canada―10 people died.
“Where is God?” and “Why does God let this happen?” people mourned in anguish. We felt their pain. Our prayers are with everyone around the world who is suffering, regardless of the reason.
God is Love
Amidst all this innocent bloodshed and evil, you must resist the urge to blame God. Why? Because God is love (1John1:8) and wishes good for His people.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). In John 10:10, Jesus outlines His purpose: “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance.”
The truth is, death and destruction comes from the devil, whose purpose is “to steal, kill and destroy” (John 10:10). We are warned in 1 Peter 5: 8 to “be sober, be alert and cautious at all times [as] that enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
Good News
The good news is there’s hope. It the midst of the horror it may be hard to understand, but know that God will never leave us, nor forsake us, and that whatever the devil meant for evil, God will use it for good (Genesis 50:20).
When Jesus died on the crossed, He bore all our sins, pain, sorrow, grief, sicknesses and diseases. When He rose from the grave, He conquered death. The same God who raised Jesus from the grave lives in us, and the Bible tell us that He that is in us is greater than he that’s in the world.
Hold on to Hope
You can make a difference to a grieving world.
How? Take a hold of the hope that has been set before you (Hebrews 6:18). Let’s tap into the power of a resurrected Lord so that we can do great things on earth (John 14:12), demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ and revive hope to the glory of God (Matthew 5:16).
To succeed, we must activate:
- Who we are in Christ: The light of the world (Matthew 5:14)
- Who Christ is in us: The hope of glory (Colossians 1:27)
- What we can do in Christ: All things are possible (Matthew19:26)
